A South Barrington home was
destroyed after a fire ripped through it overnight
Monday.
According to witnesses, fire could
be seen shooting out of the roof of the home at 3 Shire
Trail for miles, with smoke from the blaze seen as far
as Elgin.
Barrington firefighters said when
they arrived on the scene shortly after 10:30 p.m.
Monday, heavy fire was coming through the roof of the
7,000-square-foot, two-story home.
Officials said it took
firefighters from 30 area departments — using tens of
thousands of gallons of water — about 2¨ hours to
extinguish the fire.
According to Barrington fire
officials, a number of factors, including wood shingles,
no residential sprinkler system, no fire hydrants and
the home being located at the end of a cul-de-sac, all
contributed to the fire’s intensity. South Barrington
does not have municipal water and is on well and septic
systems.
The cause of the fire is not yet
known and remains under investigation, officials said.
No one was home at the time of the
fire, and no one was injured. No damage estimate was
provided.
According to the popular real
estate Internet site Zillow.com, the home is worth an
estimated $1.4 million.
Departments assisting on the fire
were Lake Zurich, Wauconda, Palatine Rural, Buffalo
Grove, Mundelein, Carpentersville, Hoffman Estates,
Algonquin, Libertyville, Countryside, Bartlett, Fox
River Grove, East Dundee, Rolling Meadows, Cary, Crystal
Lake, Long Grove, Deerfield, West Dundee, Palatine,
Grayslake, Round Lake, Rutland-Dundee, Elgin,
Streamwood, Lincolnshire, Prospect Heights, Fox Lake,
Arlington Heights and Huntley. |
